How to connect pi to a Snowflake instance

Login to your dashboard or, alternatively you can use this link https://try-pi.panintelligence.cloud.

If you’re using a try-pi instance, by clicking on the link shown above, you will need to login with the following details:

Username: dashboard

Password: dashboard

Click ‘Dashboard Configuration’ in the top-right corner.

Click ‘Data Connections’ and then click the ‘Add’ button to create a new data connection.

Sign into Snowflake and copy the URL for the Snowflake instance that you want to connect Panintelligence to.

In Dashboard Configuration > Data Connections create a new connection by clicking the ‘Add’ icon at the top-left. Click into the Data Source Type field and select Snowflake from the list of options.

In the Host Name field, enter the URL that you copied in the previous step.

In the ‘Warehouse Name’ field, enter the name of the warehouse that you have running in your Snowflake instance that you want to connect to.

Enter the name of the Database that you want to use into the ‘Database Name’ field and then enter your ‘User Name’ and ‘Password’.

To generate pre-quoted objects, add double quote (“) marks into the ‘Object Start Quote’ and ‘Object End Quote’ fields as shown in the following screenshot. This method will work in databases where there are mixed case objects i.e. some in lower case and some in upper case.

As part of our February 23 release, we have also enabled the ability to pass in a Role as part of the connection. Setting the role can be useful when initially setting up the connection to gain full access to all tables, should restriction apply to other roles.

Click the ‘Save’ icon and if the details have been entered correctly the ‘Data’ tab will be displayed.

Click the ‘Add’ icon, select the tables that you want to use and then click ‘Generate’ at the bottom right. You can find details on how to add tables here.

Your new connection is now ready to use.

Have a look at some of our videos/ pi Academy to see what you can do in your dashboard. We also have lots of information in our documentation section.
