Shared Category Objects
With effect from the 2022-02-24 dashboard release:
When a Category Object is added to a parent category it will now be shared by all child categories:
For example, in the screenshot below we have a parent category called ‘Human Resources’, a child category beneath that called ‘Job Role’ and a child beneath that called ‘Employees’.
In this example, we have a bar chart on the ‘Employees’ category that shows Employee Count and Percent Salary Hike.
In ‘Dashboard Configuration’, we’ve set Category Objects on each of the 3 levels as shown below.
Human Resources
Job Role
Employees
If Category Objects are defined on the ‘Human Resources’ and ‘Job Role’ categories, they will also be available on the ‘Employees’ category. We can see from the screenshot below that all 3 levels of Category Objects are displayed on the child category ‘Employees’.
By filtering this chart on a Category Object from the ‘Human Resources’ category, we can see that the data is filtered accordingly.
If we then apply a further Category Object from the ‘Job Role’ category again the data is filtered.
Finally, if we choose a Category Object from the ‘Employees’ category, we can filter the data further.
Additional information:
Category Objects from the parent level behave as if they were defined at child level
If the same Category Object is used on both the parent and child categories, the system shows an error in the Configuration screen on the child category
The ‘Display on Page Top’ and ‘Cascade Filters’ options respect the settings defined on the child category if parent and child are configured differently
