Adding Chart Links

Chart Links can be used to provide different views of a chart and associated data. For example, you may have a Bar chart that is used to show Sales by month, however one department may prefer to view this as a Data Table to provide a breakdown of figures.

Using Chart Links on a chart provides you with a quick way to display the data in different ways, without needing to add more charts than is necessary onto you Categories, which would make these more cluttered and hard to understand.

Chart Links appear in a chart cell and provide users with a quick way of viewing other charts with a single click. It is possible to link to a Category, allowing you to quickly switch from the chart to a category of related charts.

In this example, the Bar chart shows monthly sales as standard, with the additional option for users to view Weekly Sales and Yearly Sales using Chart Links.

Below is a further example of a Bar Chart that has Chart Links to a Spline Chart and a Data Table.

To use Chart Links, the charts that you want to link to must already be saved to your Chart Library, please see Creating a New Chart for full instructions on how to create these and store them in your Chart Library.

To add Chart Links to a Chart, click the ‘Edit chart’ icon from the Chart Tools menu.

Once in the Chart Editor, click the Config icon at the top-left of the screen (see below)

In the Chart Links section (highlighted by the red box in the image below), click the ‘Add / Plus’ icon. click the ‘--Please Select--’ drop-down arrow and find the chart or category that you want the to link to present when selected.

Use the Label field to enter the name you want users to see once the Chart before they are presented with the Chart you are linking to.

Finally choose the position on the Chart that you wish to see the Chart Links using the ‘Chart Links Position’ option at the bottom of the screen. By default, all links that you add will be positioned in the bottom-right corner of the chart cell.

Please have a look at this document for more information on the position of Chart Links.
