How can I see how many people are viewing my dashboard?

You’ve created a really useful dashboard with lots of interesting content, but do you know if anyone is actually using it? Every new user that you create, regardless of the User Type you choose for them, will have the permission ‘Enable Auditing’ selected by default. With this permission enabled, every time a user does something in a dashboard an audit count will be generated and stored in the MIS_AUDITS table in the Dashboard Repos Data Connection.

From this table, we can build charts or tables in our Dashboard that will enable us to quickly see these figures. This is useful for a couple of reasons:

  • You’ll be able to see what users have looked at and how many times

  • You’ll be able to check whether any requested content has actually been used (useful if you need to delete charts)

 Instructions

  1. Create a chart that shows the Audit Count for a particular date. In the following screenshot, we created a Spline Chart

  2. We then created a Drill Down level that will enable us to see who the user was, what chart they looked at and how many times they looked at it

You can find Audit data, including the objects used in the examples shown above, in the Dashboard Repos Data Connection.
