Can I stop users changing the default layout for a Category?

You’ve created a layout on a Category, but users keep changing it and saving new versions. There are a couple of ways of stopping users from changing your default layout.

 Instructions

Method 1

  1. You could make changes to the User privileges. You could untick the ‘Can Modify Layouts’ privilege from the user or role

  2. Removing the ‘Can Control Default Layout’ option will remove the ‘Save as Default Layout’ option when a user clicks the ‘Manage Layout’ icon. Users will still be able to resize chart cells, replace existing charts and create new charts but they will not be able to save the changes

  3. Removing the ‘Can Modify Layouts’ option will stop the Manage Layout icon being displayed altogether and will also automatically untick the ‘Can Control Default Layout’ option. This means that users will not be able to resize chart cells, create new charts or replace existing charts

This method, however, would prevent them from making changes to any of the Categories that they have access to.

Method 2

  1. If you only want to prevent them from making changes to particular Categories, the easiest option would be to tick the ‘Lock Default Layout’ option at Category level

This would prevent them saving a new layout on this Category but, if they had the relevant permission, they would still be able to make changes and save them on other Categories that they have access to.

Users would still be able to resize chart cells, replace existing charts and create new charts but the ‘Manage layout’ icon would not be displayed and therefore they would be prevented from saving their changes.
