Missing Dates

When your data may contain non-working days such as weekends or holidays it can sometimes be difficult to spot where the non working days are. These instructions show how you can easily display the non-working days in a Merged chart.

Step 1 - Create your chart

In this first screenshot, we’ve created a chart to show Time Spent on a working day but it’s not obvious from the dates on the X Axis if there are any non-working days.

Step 2 - Create a chart to show every working day

To ensure that we can see where there are non-working days in the Merged chart we’ve created a second chart using some data that shows every date and to this data source we’ve added an object that doesn’t contain any data. We’ve created this as shown below.

Now when we create a chart using the ‘Every date’ and ‘Empty’ objects, we get something like this - a chart that shows all dates but no data.

Step 3 - Create your Merged chart

When these two charts are combined together, the X Axis of the Merged chart will display gaps where there is missing data.

If we also create a Category Object filter, we’ll be able to filter both charts without having to make any further changes, the date range filter will filter the date ranges on both charts and return both the empty dates and the non empty dates.
