Using Custom Variables for Host Names

If your Host Name is longer than 100 characters, add a custom variable in Dashboard Configuration>Settings>Global Variables. In this example, we’ve just used localhost in the Variable Value field.

In Data Connections>Connection, add the variable name in the Host Name field.

This method should allow you to use host names that are longer than 100 characters.

Variables can be flagged as secure and used for database username and password. Secure variables will not work in locations other than those.

Use of secure variables for database username and/or password will disable any connection pooling for that connection.

To improve security and facilitate a smooth upgrade any global variables used in data connection usernames will be upgraded to secure variables.
